I'm still not convinced that this isn't simply Wiggler from Mario in cosplay.

012 - Butterfree

Yeah, he looks more like an evolution of Venonat, but this guy always had a place on my team beginning of game. 

011 - Metapod

I won't lie - trying to figure out how to make this guy into an interesting but useless 5th Edition monster was an interesting exercise. There's a reason it's a CR 0.

010 - Caterpie

Not that the OG starters aren't fun, but I've been looking forward to getting through them so I could get into some of the other evolutionary lines. Caterpie is, despite actually being nothing more than bird food, one of my favorite early game catches.

009 - Mega Blastoise

Thick thighs save lives and also let you carry a Howitzer on your back.

Look at that smug look on his face. He knows you're not getting through that shell. I kind of want to wipe it off with a blast of water from one of his cannons, honestly. He's still a prime starter choice for late game though thanks to Swim.

008 - Wartortle

Your guess is as good as mine as to what's going on with this evolution design. I already used up my puberty material with Charmeleon.

007 - Squirtle

I'll be the first to admit - I love this little guy. But it's a little bit hard to take him seriously as a threat (and not just because of his name). Thankfully, there's evolution to help him out.

006 - Mega Charizard-Y

And then there's this magnificent specimen. The head crest is supposed to be crown, because this mega-evolution makes this evolutionary line king of the Generation 1 starters.

Now we're talking even louder! Charizard finally gets his due with a dragon typing (in the video games, not in the D&D stats - that would just be silly).

Now that's what I'm talking about! It's a pity Charizard never got the dragon-type recognition he deserved outside of a mega-evolution (but more on that tomorrow).

005 - Charmeleon

I'll be the first to admit that puberty wasn't exactly kind to Charmeleon. But just you wait. He's a bit of a late bloomer in that regard.

004 - Charmander

Hot take - Charmander is the superior starter. I will die on this hill.

003 - Mega Venusaur

I thought long and hard about including the mega-evolutions in this project, but in the end decided to include them for completions sake. My main rationale behind this was so that I could include more "legendary" creatures and thus get more practice writing legendary actions. 

"Hey, buddy. My eyes are down here. Quit staring at my trunk."

"For the last time, it's not dandruff! It's pollen!"

002 - Ivysaur

So stately. So majestic. So aromatic. Ivysaur looks like its starring in a fragrance ad.

001 - Bulbasaur

We're going to dive right into this madness. The idea should be pretty self-evident. Each blog post will give you 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons monster stats for an individual Pokemon. Don't ask me why I decided this was a good idea - because the answer is most certainly a definitive - "it isn't." 

But we're doing it anyway, because that's just the kind of life I lead. 

Each of these stat blocks will also be added to an ongoing PDF that will eventually be released for download for those that want it. I can't really say anything bad about this little guy. Just look at him. He's too cute! Also, if I do, the internet will get mad at me. And that's not a good way to start off this new project.
